Casio G-Shock Celebrates Turning 30 With a Limited Edition Timepiece

G-Shock, the popular hip hop sensation watch, has turned 30.  To commemorate this event G-shock has unveiled its highly resilient and shock absorbent  DW-6900 model in metallic.
Often Commemorative timepieces celebrating the highly popular collections are unveiled in platinum like Audemars Piguet timepiece celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Royal Oak Collection.

So I think it is quite relevant for the G-shock, which is not a high end watch, to issue commemorative timepieces in Lustrous Metallic Silver - not platinum in worth, but celebratory non-the-less. The watch will be in limited edition of a mere 5000 pieces.  This may sound like quite a large amount for an anniversary limited edition - but due to Casio G-Shock immense popularity, 5000 pieces is a drop in the ocean.  Of course if you are in attendance at BaselWorld, you will come upon its 23 foot likeness entrenched in the rugged metallic wall of Casio's booth.


The Casio G-Shock has been spotted on quite a few celebs such as Eminem, Chris Martin from Coldplay, Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne.  

Casio G-Shock's are everywhere.  With proven resilience and shock absorbance, Casio G-Shock has provided the look of the modern hip-hop generation. 

This collection has been subjected to all kinds of mutations like this iced out pink thing.  Not my cup of tea - but then again with a certain outfit - it could work.

Let us toast to Casio G-Shock's prolific accomplishments over the past 30 thirty years.

Ok! Whose a running to BaselWorld Hall Palace Booth P05 A?  Run through the palace entrance. Race past the huge CASIO exhibits (lots of G-shocks on display - I assume).  Take note of the Urwerk and MB & F on your left ( a definite stop on your way out).  Hurry past the large P03 hall - yes the Haldimann un-watch is keeping its un-time as well as numerous ArtyA creations! Zoom past the Ikepod Hour Glasses and De Bethune on your right! Come to a screaming halt outside your destination at Booth P05 A- the HYT H1 Hydro Mechanical Watch on Display. Bend over! Place your hands on your knees and take a deep breath.  You have arrived to view the most talked about watch on the web - The HYT H1 Hydro Mechanical Watch... and once you have taken a good look at the Watch - please do me a favor and tell me all about it.

Casio G-Shock Spotted on Celebs

Rushing through busy streets late for an appointment, I scanned shop windows with practiced efficiency.  All of a sudden a glittering row of something something caught my eye.  I skidded to a halt - much to the exasperation of rushing New Yorkers.
"Hey Cool!" I said, "What do we have here?"
The sparkling something somethings were actually a row of gem smothered iced out G-Shocks - Ka Ching.  The ultimate "must have" in Hip Hop Watches - a "Jacob & Co" type image for a fraction of the price.  So who has been seen with a G-Shock?  Lil Wayne was spotted in a Casio/Babe G-Shock DW-6900 Limited Edition Watch at a Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks game 2 of the NBA finals , Eminem sports a black on black G-Shock 7900B-1 in his latest album Bad Meets Evil. Kanye West wears a G-Shock and so does Chris Martin.

But G-Shock is not only a Hip Hop Watch, you will find the incredible G-Shock Watch around the wrist(s) of Thai model and actor, Mario Maurer and don't be surprised if you spot Denzel Whitaker sporting a fiery red Casio G-Shock in the "now playing in theaters everywhere" movie Abduction.

Casio G-Shock Everywhere!

The cool watch this summer is definitely the Casio G-Shock. Ever since I spotted Eminem's G-Shock in his Music Vid "I need a Dr" with Dr Dre, I knew this watch had become an icon for hip hop coolness. I mean you could not miss the crisp white DW-6900FS-8 model G-Shock watch amid the eery dimness of that weird recovery lab. Watch the video and you'll know what I'm talking about.
And if that's not enough on this latest music vid from Coldplay, "Every Teardrop is a WaterFall.". I spotted a bright yellow G-Shock on the lead singer, Chris Martin's arm" . Chris Martin was also spotted wearing a bright blue DW-6900MM-2 model G-Shock at a Pinkpop- a Dutch Festival
. Ludacris is wearing a G-Shock on Fast Five. Back in 2009, Ludacris encrusted or "iced" his G-shock in diamonds.

Justin Bieber was spotted wearing a purple G-Shock DW6900.

Then the movies, let see ... in Scream 4 - check out the cops (inset), Saw 2.

The first time I really noticed the G-Shock was in the movie Speed with Keanu Reeves wearing a DW5600C .
The guys on Jersey Shore Season 3 all wear G-Shocks, so do the Doctors on Scrubs and the contestants in the Amazing race. Said, on Lost Season 2 wears a Casio G-Shock DW -6600 in his back story.

If there was ever a watch with so much exposure, it is the Casio G-Shock.
